Stebon new build primary school is the first London new build school to achieve Passive Haus certification. The project comprises of refurbishment and extension of the existing school and the construction of a new 1200m² teaching wing.
The new build scheme consisted of a timer frame superstructure supported on a new 300mm deep raft slab. Passive Haus requirements meant that insulation & membranes were provided below the raft slab to ensure a continuous insulation and airtight envelope. Vibro-stone ground improvement was used on the existing stratum to improve the allowable bearing pressure for the proposed building loads.
Extensive modifications and column removals were also undertaken to create clear space in the new school dining area.
Barrett Mahony provided Structural & Civil Consultancy services for the project with Bouygues UK Ltd.
